Medical evaluation and certification of incapacity for work
The certifying bodies in the Social Insurance Institution are ZUS
evaluating doctors and also - from 1 January 2005 - medical boards. The
tasks of ZUS evaluating doctors include issuing decisions for pension
purposes, decisions on the entitlement to the social pension, decisions
establishing eligibility for the rehabilitation benefit and decisions in
non-pension issues, such as: monitoring the correctness of certifying
temporary incapacity for work, certifying the need for rehabilitation
during the period of temporary incapacity for work, awarding the nursing
supplement to pensioners, ascertaining the percentage rate of the health
damage as a result of accidents at work and occupational diseases,
certification in cases of benefits subject to coordination within the EU
or on the advisability of vocational retraining.
